Biking Across America
On Sunday, May 7th I will begin a 4,228 mile bike ride from Yorktown Virginia to Astoria, Oregon. My goal, besides traversing the country is to raise awareness for Autism Speaks. Since my first experience working with those with ASD, I’ve known that I had a calling to provide assistance to those on the spectrum. I also have a love for adventure and seeking what lies beyond the next corner. I’ve come to the conclusion that combining these passions would make for an amazing and valuable experience and at the same time raise money and awareness for an organization and cause that I believe in!
For the last three years I have been working on furthering my career and increasing my knowledge of ASD by completing a Masters program in Applied Behavior Analysis, working as an Autism interventionist and accruing experience to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I have been working with individuals on the spectrum in Burlington, Vermont since my graduation from St. Michael’s College in 2012. Between this and my past work experience at various camps and social work positions, it has been my privilege to work with many of these incredible individuals.
I plan to ride along the TransAmerica Trail which began as a route for a mass bicycle tour across the country in celebration for the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976. I will ride the 4-thousand plus miles, self-supported, in that I will carry all of my personal items, including; food, water, clothing, camping gear, tools etc. In total, the journey could take anywhere from 2-3 months. No donations will be used to fund the trip and all proceeds will go to Autism Speaks.
I’ll be updating everyone on my progress via Instagram @freekerbythemountain and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/timbikesacrossamerica/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel
