I'm running the NYC Marathon for Autism Speaks!
Sheri Miltenberger / Double the Adventure
Will you please support my fundraising efforts?
My family created our walk Team, Double the Adventure, in honor of my twins, James & Thomas, who both have autism. When we started, James was also in treatment for leukemia. Thankfully, he has survived cancer, but both will live with autism their whole lives.
Our team has participated in the Autism Speaks Walks in the Lehigh Valley for over a decade and this year, I am excited to take DTA to the Big Apple! Along with my dear friend from college, Lili Schroppe, I am running the New York City Marathon November 3 to raise money for Autism Speaks. We're excited, but nervous. 26.2 miles is a long way!
With my twins now 21 (!) and leaving school, I have a lot of tough decisions regarding their future. I am grateful to many who have offered help, support, and resources along this journey, including Autism Speaks.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 59 children is on the autism spectrum.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
