Jordan's journey to the 2019 NYC Marathon with Autism Speaks!
Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
I am raising funds to support a cause that is near and dear to my heart while accomplishing a personal goal, 26.2 miles through beautiful New York City!
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 59 children is on the autism spectrum.
As a Speech-Language Pathologist in the public school system, I have the opportunity to to work with children from pre-school to fifth grade who are on the autism spectrum. We work on developing and fostering the necessary communication and social skills that may come easy to you and I. My students deserve the world in terms of advocacy for themselves as individuals and their families, acceptance of their strengths and difficulties and research to better understand how to make them successful in all areas of their lives! Autism Speaks provides all of these resources and more! There is no other organization I'd choose to champion and raise funds for over the next THREE months!
Autism Speaks is an organization focused on autism research, advocacy and awareness. The Autism Response Team is a free service to the community that helps to answer questions and links people with resources and support in their community. In addition, their public awareness campaign stresses the importance of recognizing the early signs of autism and seeking early intervention services. While every child develops differently, research shows that early treatment improves outcomes, often dramatically.
There are no words to express how thankful I am that you have taken the time to read about the mission of Autism Speaks and my journey to the New York City Marathon. Supporting me in my efforts to raise funds for this organization means the world to me!
No donation amount is too small to help me reach my goal!
