Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
As most of you know, this cause is one that is very close to my heart. Autism isn't a "one-size-fits-all" disorder, so every person diagnosed with ASD requires individualized supports and treatment. The implications and effects of ASD are felt not only by the individual, but also by their family members, teachers, caregivers and loved ones. One thing I have learned in my time spent working with students diagnosed with ASD is that the best possible supports and treatment come with an incredibly expensive price tag. Caring for a loved one on the autism spectrum also requires a tremendous amount of emotional strength and resilience.
My hope is for a world in which families and caregivers of all socioeconomic backgrounds and from all zipcodes are provided with the same level of outstanding support during the diagnosis and early intervention process. This can be such a challenging time for families, and I have seen how carelessly some doctors and school personnell deliver initial information to families about this complex disorder. Early intervention is crucial to treatment of ASD, but so is the timely and strategic delivery of quality resources to the people who love and care for these individuals the most.
Most importantly, individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder are intelligent, unique and so deserving of our support and hard to work to enhance their quality of life. If you have the means, please consider donating to benefit the incredible work of Autism Speaks. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.
