Charlie's AUsome Angels are going to the mountains!
Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
As many of y'all know I am racing the Leadville 100 Trail Mountain Bike race again this year in search of a another buckle- big or small. I am also raising funds to support a cause that is important to our family. Lindsay, our entire family and I have been active in the Autism community for years and have been involved with other fundraising events but this is the first time we've taken it to the highest incorporated city in the US as well as the highest and hardest one day mountain bike race in the US!
Lindsay and I have experienced first hand the benefits of Autism Awareness and the support of Autism Speaks and want to help to ensure others also know there is help available to guide them on their journey as well. That's our reason for supporting, fundraising and sharing. Over the last two years I've trained nearly every day for this race and Charlie has been with me on nearly every indoor trainer ride. He is my coach; he critiques my "form" and lets me know I need to be going faster. It has been a great reminder of the work we have to put in for success, the effort it takes and that we're not in it alone- it takes a team of Angels to beat anything! We've been extremely fortunate that Charlie's treatment has been as successful as it has and his future is wide open but many families and persons with Autism aren't as fortunate. That's why the work of Autism Speaks is so important.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 59 children is on the autism spectrum.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal and supporting Charlie!
