Welcome to My Personal Page
Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
I am raising funds to support a cause that is important to me.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 59 children is on the autism spectrum.
One of the reasons this cause is important to me is because of the increase in diagnoses of this condition. This means that not only are even more people are affected by the condition, but also more caregivers are affected.
- In 2018 the CDC determined that approximately 1 in 59 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
- 31% of children with ASD have an intellectual disability.
- There is no medical detection for autism.
- On average, autism costs an estimated $60,000 a year through childhood, with the bulk of the costs in special services and lost wages related to increased demands on one or both parents.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
One of the reasons I chose this charity is because of the amount of research that is funded by them. They have awarded $163,132,428 of total awarded funds for research in 17different countries around the world. The topics of research range from the underlying causes and detection to living with ASD for both the individual and caretakers.
As mentioned above, there is currently no medical detection for autism, meaning there is a lot we still do not know about the disorder. With more research dedicated to autism, the more fruitful the results.
Help me, help them promote further research to help the future generations of caretakers and individuals.
For those who do not know me, I am not a long-distance runner. But because of the challenges that people undergo as a result of autism affecting their life, I wanted to overcome a challenge. I wanted to overcome a challenge while also helping others by raising money for an organization that provides so much support to those affected by autism.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
