Why I run for Autism Speaks ~ Courtney Kelly
Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
As many of you know the special needs community has a very special place in my heart. The amount of joy I get from connecting with the kids I am so lucky to call friends is indescribable. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think about how grateful I am for all of the opportunities I have been able to have at such a young age. These experiences have changed my life forever, and truly has had such a positive impact on me. These kids have helped me get through some of my hardest times. This year was a tough one for me to say the least and I’ve decided I want to live a happier and healthier life both mentally and physically. In this new endeavour I decided I wanted to set a goal for myself, and what better goal than to help an organization that stands for exactly what I stand for myself. In February both my mom and I will be completing the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 5k! Though it has always been a dream of mine to do a runDisney race I couldn’t be happier to do it through Autism Speaks! ( And with my mom!) Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span. I truly believe the message of Autism Speaks as it does not look for a ‘cure’ but to spread awareness and help families who are affected with autism. I have committed to raise a goal of 500 dollars for Autism Speaks so they can continue to carry out their message of autism awareness. Any donation whether it be big or small is greatly appreciated to help me reach my goal! This event means the world to me and I’m so excited to share my journey!
