Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
This past Fall, Austin was diagnosed with autism. I often wondered how I would feel if I had a child diagnosed with autism. To be honest, it really was not as overwhelming as I had thought it might be. Austin is loving, caring, funny and smart. Autism is just one part of a little boy that everyone adores. While the diagnosis was not overwhelming, getting him the services he needed was overwhelming. There was no central place to go and sometimes it felt like I was running in circles. I had a wonderful boss that gave me the time I needed to put all of my efforts into figuring it out and we were lucky to be financially comfortable enough to retain some private services. Still, it took over 9 months to get him the ABA services he needed. It still takes hours every week to work with insurance and providers. I constantly wonder how other families that do not have our resources make it all work. I strongly believe that every individual deserves to get the education and services they need. For this reason, I have decided to run in an Autism Speaks Virtual 5K on July 4th. Autism Speaks is a wonderful organization that helps every family that is affected by autism. It is a wonderful community that I have come to rely on and I want to help them continue to do their important work.
Thank you so much for supporting my family and Autism Speaks!
