Help me support Autism Speaks as I run the Walt Disney World Marathon!
On January 12th, 2020 I hope to do something I've been wanting to do for a really long time...run a marathon. I've run four half-marathons, but have never been able to tackle the FULL marathon distance. Well, now is the time! And as I've been training, I made the decision that I really wanted to also fundraise for a great organization! I humbly ask that you join me in my efforts and donate to support Autism Speaks, as I'll be running on Team Up at the Walt Disney World Marathon!
In my short time at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando, our Education Team had the pleasure of receiving such an incredible training session on Autism Awareness by Dr. Amy Fritz-Ocock, from the University of Central Florida CARD. This training, and delving deeper into understanding the conditions and challenges of those with ASD, and how we as theater educators can provide for more successful experiences in the classroom and in the performing arts for these students/artists gave me the inspiration to fundraise for this organization and run on this team!
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 59 children is on the autism spectrum.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
I thank you in advance for helping me reach my personal goal, and ultimately to help Autism Speaks reach their goals for advancing research and enhancing the lives of those on the spectrum and their families. Your support and donations are so greatly appreciated! Thank you!
