Connie's Fundraising page- help me run the NYC marathon
I chose Autism for my fundraising efforts because of Willie. Willie is my little cousin. First time I met him, he was 3 or 4 at a Thanksgiving dinner. He walked up, and crawled up on my lap. I didn't think anything of it, the room was very crowded and I had a pretty cushiony lap. I soon found out, because everyone was staring and whispering, taking pictures, etc., Willie does not talk to strangers. He continues to be my little buddy every time I visit. He has given me tours of his neighborhood, told me the must see sites at Disneyland and lots of other fun things
With your help I am running the NYC Marathon for my 50th birthday! 3 years ago at well over 200 lbs, I thought running a nonstop 5K was impossible. I took up running and fast forward 3 years-- I am training for Marathon #3 (NYC will end up being #2 run because of Coronavirus).
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 54 children is on the autism spectrum.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
