Why I Walk for Autism Speaks
I'm walking to raise funds for the mission of Autism Speaks - to fuel innovative research and make connections to critical lifelong supports and services for our son, Hunter and the autism community. Please support me by donating and help me meet my fundraising goal - and you, too, can join the team and make an impact for people living with autism!
In March of this year, just as the COVID-19 Pandemic was breaking, we learned answers to our questions about Hunter’s social communication and excessive and repetitive behavior issues. These issues were impacting him daily for months at multiple daycare's resulting in him being dismissed from them and leaving us dismayed, confused as to why and uncertain of what to do next. From incessant calls and incident reports, coupled with lack of professional support and information as to why, we have felt so, so lost about our little guy and why he’s been struggling.
Now. We. Know. Why.
Hunter has Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and a Mixed Expressive and Recessive Language Delay.
As we continue to learn more about these disorders and how we can better support our son, we also wanted to do our part as new members of the Autism community to shed some awareness on these issues that SO many of children face. We had no idea. And we continue to learn more everyday as we integrate support, therapies, advocates and services into Hunter’s life so that he can start to thrive in group and educational settings.
f you’re interested in joining us on Hunter’s journey, let Beau or I know as we will be creating a private Facebook group to share updates about our learnings and Hunter’s progress. #huntershomies https://www.facebook.com/groups/huntershomies/
