Why I Walk for Autism Speaks
Five years ago, our son Jackson was diagnosed with autism. Both Jackson and our family have put in a lot of hard work to get where he is today and he is now in a Gen Ed 2nd grade class, reading at a 4th grade level and participating in a 3rd grade math class. Although we celebrate Jackson's success, not everyone has the access to the same resources we are able to provide for Jackson. That's why we support Autism Speaks . . .
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.
Three years ago, our family started a grant through the Autism Cares program to help pay for autism related therapies for families in need. As the Vice Chair of the Georgia Autism Speaks Board of Directors, Colleen has helped distribute chapter grants to local Georgia businesses to help fund autism related education, therapy and summer camp programs. We appreciate the support everyone has shown our family through the years and want to pay it forward to other families that can benefit from the services provided by Autism Speaks.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support!
