Why I Walk for Autism Speaks
I'm walking to raise funds for the mission of Autism Speaks – to fuel innovative research and make connections to critical lifelong supports and services for the autism community. Please support me by donating and help me meet my fundraising goal - and you, too, can join the team and make an impact for people living with autism!
Our son was diagnosed in December of 2016 and while it was overwhelming, scary, stressful, etc. we have found solace in the fact that there are as many resources as there are available to help guide us as parents on this journey. Our child is FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made and is so special, unique, bright, loving and fun in his own perfect way. We can't wait to see what the future holds for him and to grow with the Autism community as he does. Currently, Landon attends therapy 5 days a week, 3 days at his private daycare with an ABA (behavioral) therapist, 3 days at special education preschool, and 2 days at private therapy (occupational and speech). He was also diagnosed with Speech Apraxia in June 2018 and sees a specialist for that therapy once a week. He is the busiest 4.5 year old we know but we love every minute of watching him learn and grow. His speech is still our hardest hurdle to tackle but this year we are up to about 300 words, counting to 25, writing our name and learning our letters and colors. Every day is a roller coaster and we never know what's coming, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Little sister is adjusting to the craziness of big brother's schedule as well and has been a big helper in pushing him to communicate more. And new little brother is just along for the ride for now!
We walk for our big little love once a year and fight and advocate every minute of every day. Please join us in loving on and supporting him!
