Why I Walk for Autism Speaks
My mother was a special education teacher when I was growing up, and I believe that is where my love for special education began. At an early age, I had always known that I wanted to become a teacher. To me, there is nothing more amazing than teaching children through love, and watching them learn and grow. It wasn’t until I was in best buddies in high school that it was clear to me I wanted to be a special education teacher. From there, I went to college to be an elementary school special education teacher. Through substitute teaching and classroom experience, I had been frequently surrounded by students with autism. Every student had their own story, challenges, and successes. What impressed me the most wasn’t how much I could teach these students, but how much they were teaching me.
Autism Speaks has a mission to fuel innovative research and make connections to critical lifelong supports and services for the autism community. Come join my team ‘The Unstoppables’ for an amazing walk and an even better fundraiser. If you can’t walk with us you can still be part of the team and help us by donating!! ANYTHING is greatly appreciated!! But trust me... you don’t want to miss this walk! Please share / tell your family and friends, so this year we can have a bigger success!
