Our Unexpected Blessing!
Jacob has been our unexpected blessing! When I learned that Jacob may be different, it confirmed many of my inner feelings at the time. However, it also made me question my ability as a parent. It made me feel like my world was crashing down. But 10 years later, I no longer feel that way. Jacob has blessed our family in so many ways. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching his growth over the years. In the last couple of years, Jacob's growth was almost exponential. He went from this quiet boy who didn't interact much to a very social High Schooler in his very first year of inclusion. Though an inclusion program at 14 would seem difficult enough, Jacob has navigated this stage with confidence and a willingness to push forth. I admire my his will and his desire to be better. I know that he will be something great. I have known that since he was a little boy. He has taken us to places we have never been before. From sharing a stage with Bob Costas at a fancy MLB event at the Met to being broadcast all over television in attempt to share hope to those parents who were once like myself --scared, lost and fearful of what the future would hold.
This year marks the 10th year we began walking with Autism Speaks. Organizations like Autism Speaks empowered our family to continue to fight for our son and for all of those affected by Autism. We continue to walk each year, to provide the voiceless with a voice.
Please my family and I in raising funds for Autism Speaks so that AUTISM can have a voice with legislators, to have access to the information and resources we need, to support research and medical discovery, and to help fund local services through the mission of Autism Speaks. Together, we can accomplish amazing things for people living with autism. All donations are tax deductible and support an "AU"SOME cause!
