The 15th Annual Autism Speaks Walk in partnership with SARRC has got a brand new look! To ensure the safety of our community, Autism Speaks and SARRC are making a few changes to the 2020 Walk event. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are transforming our traditional day-of activities into new, fun, and engaging ways for teams to safely celebrate and participate this year.
Participants are encouraged to build a Walk team comprised of family, friends, and loved ones, then set a goal and begin fundraising! Register to track your team's progress and get access to resources, fundraising tools, and more. Celebrate your efforts on Saturday, Oct. 31 with Walk on Wheels and/or participate in your own neighborhood!
Walk on Wheels!
Autism Speaks and SARRC will host Walk on Wheels: an organized, festive, and safely-distanced car parade at the Mesa Convention Center. To meet traffic regulations and ensure the safety of all our participants, assigned time slots will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. per car. Timeslot selections will be sent out directly after you register for the Walk.
Bring the Walk to your neighborhood!
Join us virtually in the comfort of your home! At 9 a.m., we will host our Opening Ceremonies in a live-stream format, which can be followed by a 1.54-mile walk in your own neighborhood! We will even supply you with a start line banner and pom-poms to share with your neighbors to cheer you on!
If there is one thing we know, about our Walk community… it’s that there’s no shortage of ways you show how much you care about people with autism. Get those creative wheels turning, and show us your amazing, inspiring, and shareable ideas (Neighborhood car parade? Community scavenger hunt? Sidewalk chalk art installation? Online Bingo?) to celebrate our Walk uniquely this year.
We look forward to sharing more updates as they are available. To ensure you are receiving the most current information, please be sure to register your team today.
Special thank you to our 2020 Walk Chair: Gregory Bernosky & family.

A Guide to Walk Day & Quiet Zone
Sometimes the environment at an Autism Speaks Walk can become overwhelming for people with sensory sensitivities. All of our Walks allow access to a quiet space that can be used as a safe outlet if you or your loved one living with autism becomes overwhelmed. We recommend finding the quiet area of your Walk when you arrive and share its location with your team for ease of access later on in the day should it be needed.
Find more details about the walk on the Walk News and Updates page.
Autism Speaks Walks rely on volunteers to assist in many capacities through serving on a Walk committee. Committee volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to: team and participant recruitment and fundraising mentors, corporate sponsorship outreach, Walk media outreach, school outreach and more. You can recruit your friends, family and coworkers to become a part of the Walk committee! We are working on building our Toledo committee! If you are interested in finding out more, please email Heidi.Naranjo@AutismSpeaks.org.
If your team raises $5,000 by the deadline (TBD), your team will receive a 10x10 tent.
The Grand Club
What is the Grand Club?
The Grand Club recognizes fundraisers for Autism Speaks Walk who raise at least $1000 or more prior to or at Walk day.
Grand Club members receive special benefits that may include:
- Names listed on Walk website
- Commemorative Grand Club Pin
- Special recognition at Walk and Awards Reception
- And many more benefits!
- Add your name to the list!
The success of Autism Speaks Walk depends on the dedication and support of its volunteers. Volunteers assist in many capacities - checking in participants, providing encouragement at water stops and cleaning up after the event which in turn reduces event costs and drives more funds directly to the mission. You can recruit friends, family and coworkers to form a volunteer team!
**We are currently looking for volunteers to help with setting up the evening before the walk and clean up volunteers! Please email Heidi.Naranjo@AutismSpeaks.org if you are interested in finding out more and signing up. **
Volunteer as a Team
Recruit your friends, family and coworkers to form a volunteer team. We'll do our best to assign you to the same area so you can spend the day together. Please remind each member of your team to register online so that we know how many people to plan for. Include your team name in the available field and we will know you are together.
Volunteer as an Individual
Make new friends as you play an integral role in making your city's Autism Speaks Walk event a success.
You can also volunteer before the Walk. Select this option toward the bottom of the form. We will put you in touch with the Event Chairperson so they can help you get more involved.
