To find out more information on how you can celebrate virtually on Walk Day, visit our Walk News & Updates page.
This year, we're getting creative and giving you several exciting options to determine how you want to come together as a community (in person or in spirit!), and celebrate how your commitment to raising vital funds for people with autism is making a real difference today and every day.
Option 1 - Go virtual and bring Walk home on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
While we’re not able to host a physical Walk and celebrate in-person in the Lehigh Valley this year due to the ongoing pandemic, the celebration of our community and our mission will go on from the comfort and safety of our own homes, backyards or neighborhoods. Walk 1.54 miles with your friends and family (for the 1 in 54 U.S. kids with autism) or get together with your team to celebrate locally while maintaining safe social distancing recommendations.
Option 2 - Show us how you Walk to the beat of your own drum. Get creative!
If there's one thing we know about our Walk community... it's that there's no shortage of ways you show how much you care about people with autism. So, get those creative wheels turning, and show us your amazing, inspiring and shareable ideas (neighborhood car parade of your own? community scavenger hunt? sidewalk chalk art installation? online Bingo?) to celebrate Walk a little differently this year. Who knows, maybe your idea will inspire other Walkers to do the same!
Whether you're on the spectrum, love someone who is or are looking to support a diverse, accepting and kind community — you're invited. And no matter how you choose to join us, the way that works for you is the right way to participate.
Keep checking in so you don't miss a thing as we add new activities and details. Walk day is coming fast and we could not be more excited to see your smiling faces (from a safe distance!), your decorated cars, the signs in your yards how you'll get creative to raise awareness and create a kinder, more inclusive world.
More About the Lehigh Valley Walk
A Guide to Walk Day & Quiet Zone
Sometimes the environment at an Autism Speaks Walk can become overwhelming for people with sensory sensitivities. All of our Walks allow access to a quiet space that can be used as a safe outlet if you or your loved one living with autism becomes overwhelmed. We recommend finding the quiet area of your Walk when you arrive and share its location with your team for ease of access later on in the day should it be needed.
Autism Speaks Walks rely on volunteers to assist in many capacities through serving on a Walk committee. Committee volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to: team and participant recruitment and fundraising mentors, corporate sponsorship outreach, Walk media outreach, school outreach and more. You can recruit your friends, family and coworkers to become a part of the Walk committee! To learn more contact Laura Casolaro: LehighValleyWalk@autismspeaks.org or (856) 671-7026.
If your team raises $2,000 or more by March 27,2020, your team will receive reserved space in the Autism Speaks Walk Team Village. Each Team Village Team will also receive a team banner to carry during the walk, and to save for next year.
The Grand Club
What is the Grand Club?
The Grand Club recognizes fundraisers for Autism Speaks Walk who raise at least $1,000 or more prior to or at Walk day.
Grand Club members receive special benefits that may include:
- Names listed on Walk website
- Commemorative Grand Club Pin
- Special recognition at Walk and Awards Reception
- And many more benefits!
- Add your name to the list!
The success of Autism Speaks Walk depends on the dedication and support of its volunteers. Volunteers assist in many capacities - checking in participants, providing encouragement at water stops and cleaning up after the event which in turn reduces event costs and drives more funds directly to the mission. You can recruit friends, family and coworkers to form a volunteer team!
Volunteer as a Team
Recruit your friends, family and coworkers to form a volunteer team. We'll do our best to assign you to the same area so you can spend the day together. Please remind each member of your team to register online so that we know how many people to plan for. Include your team name in the available field and we will know you are together.
Volunteer as an Individual
Make new friends as you play an integral role in making your city's Autism Speaks Walk event a success.
You can also volunteer before the Walk. Select this option toward the bottom of the form. We will put you in touch with the Event Chairperson so they can help you get more involved.
