I know you have heard the saying - If you can be anything... Be Kind. Don’t you think the world would be a better place if everyone was kinder? I certainly do. That’s why I’m participating in the Kindness Campaign for Autism Speaks this month.
All throughout the month, I’ve committed to daily acts of kindness. My three main goals are: acceptance, understanding and inclusion. When you support my Kindness Campaign through a donation, we are all one step closer to a world where every single person with autism can reach their full potential.
There are a lot of statistics out there but the one thing that hits close to home is when your own child is diagnosed ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder. After about seven years of trying to find answers, we were finally directed to the appropriate help for our youngest daughter. There are so many ways a child or young adult can fall on the spectrum of Autism. It looks and feels different to each person. The struggles are very real and can feel extremely lonely when you cannot find a way to reach out and make friends as easily as your peers. There are several categories or areas in which we have had concern for Jessica. Upon completing a lengthy evaluation and assessments we were able the get answers that made sense. Most important Jessica finally felt relief, to be able to understand how she was feeling and why and most importantly - that it wasn't her fault! There are programs out there that can help teach these kids and young adults to thrive! One of the first steps anyone can do is to Be Kind. You never know what any person is going through and the act of kindness goes a long way!!!!
