Hey there,
You're here because you're someone I love, or someone that I love loves you and passed this on for one reason or another. Anyway, thanks for being here.
This November, I am combining two of my deepest passions—running and supporting the autism community, a community very dear to my heart. I have set a significant personal goal to run the New York City Marathon, and I'm dedicating this challenge to a cause that has touched my life in profound ways. I’m running for Autism Speaks, and would love your help if this at all speaks to you.
Why Autism Speaks? The answer lies close to home. My mother, Dr. Susanne Smith Roley, and my sister, Dr. Aja Roley Van Durme, are both incredible occupational therapists specializing in Ayres Sensory Integration, dedicating their lives to helping individuals with autism lead fuller, more integrated lives. Their commitment and love have been my inspiration.
Moreover, autism is a personal story woven into the fabric of our family. My two uncles were diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome, a form of autism. Uncle Paul, whom we lost years ago, and Uncle Keith, who has been a significant part of my life. Growing up and living with my Uncle Keith has given me a firsthand view of the challenges and the joys that come with autism. It’s more than a cause; it’s my life.
Autism or autism spectrum disorder encompasses a range of conditions that pose challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication. Through this marathon, I aim not just to raise funds but to increase understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder. Autism Speaks has been at the forefront of advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families, promoting solutions across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan. Their work in enhancing lives today and accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow is why I chose to support them.
Your support means more than just a donation to Autism Speaks. It's a gesture of solidarity with my family, with Uncle Keith, with everyone whose life is touched by autism. It’s a step towards understanding, acceptance, and finding better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.
Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks by donating to my page. Whether it's $1 or $100, every contribution brings us closer to a world where individuals with autism can thrive in their unique ways. Because isn't thriving in our uniqueness what life is all about?
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support means the world.
