Please join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!

I am raising funds to support a cause that is important to me while accomplishing a personal goal.

My middle child (above) was diagnosed early in life with Autism Spectrum Disorder and getting him the appropriate care and therapies, beyond a family's love & devotion, was crucial in his development and that of our family. It has had and continues to have a great impact on him and it has helped to guide and nurture him to the incredible person he is now. We were fortunate. I want that for everyone.

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.

Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.

Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow..

I am doing this most importantly to support a stellar organization, Autism Speaks, responsibly dedicated to the growing needs of our community, but I am also doing this to support & celebrate my son, the wonderful person he is, has grown & been nurtured to be, and his life ahead.

I am also running the 2025 Chicago Marathon to honor the memory and contributions of Michelle Birdsell, MD. Dr Birdsell has had an immense impact on my family, including keeping the family father (me) six feet above ground. She was a University of Illinois-Chicago graduate who went on to complete her medical degree and residency at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, becoming chief medical resident of the psychiatry program there and serving so many in the Chicago area. She eventually moved to the Kansas City-Parkville area and opened a very patient-centered practice that ably served the needs of individuals and their families. I will be running each mile of the Chicago marathon in her honor as she will continue to run with me, her impact, throughout my life - going forward. Dr Birdsell died unexpectedly in February of 2025. Her family asked that any memorial contributions go to the charity of the donors choice and for me that is Autism Speaks and the city of Chicago. Thank you, Dr Birdsell!
