My name is Sarah Collinson and for the past 4 years I have raised money and ran many, many miles for Autism Speaks. My son, Lucas, was diagnosed 6 years ago. It has been quite a journey, but this young man has come SO far. He loves to read, draw, write his own stories, play video games, and build Lego creations. He loves animals. He is able to memorize facts and repeat them verbatim. He is amazing.
I am running marathon #5 to raise money and help others like Lucas have the resources they need to be the most amazing version of themselves possible.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 44 children is on the autism spectrum.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
