Hey Friends!
I am super excited to announce that I will be running in the 2021 Berlin Marathon this September! Those of you who know me well may know that I have run in a number of marathons, but this year I decided to get serious and run for a charity called "autism speaks". This is a charity that speaks directly to my heart as I have grown up with a brother who has autism. People who know my brother Stevie know that this is hardly an affliction as this dude is seriously the light of everyone's life. I can personally say that my life has taken on greater purpose and meaning growing up with Stevie, and I am proud to be his brother and his advocate.
The reality for many who share this condition though is that the same support and advocacy is not always present. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a wide range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, as well as verbal and nonverbal communication. Many families are not prepared or equipped with the tools to navigate the reality of having a family member with autism. Unfortunately, this leads to many with this condition rendered alone and voiceless.
Autism Speaks is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote solutions for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support, increasing understanding and acceptance of autism, and advancing research into causes and better interventions for this condition.
In short, this is an awesome organization that truly promotes empowerment for autistic individuals and their families. My goal is to raise $2,500 by September to help support this organization. I will be putting in the training and the miles to knock out 26.2 miles in Berlin this September, I am asking YOU to help me knock out my goal of raising $2,500. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and would go a long way in helping to advance this cause, thank you so much in advance for your support!
