Timmy was born in August 2008, just over 9 pounds and I swear he would've walked out of the hospital if we gave him the chance. He was strong and observant. He cooed, he ate, he slept, he was perfect. For just over a year he hit milestones ahead af schedule. He walked at 11 months, he said mama, dada, and bubba. He smiled for the camera and I can still feel the connection looking into those brown eyes in pictures. Then he stopped. Some time between 12 and 18 months old he stopped using those sweet words. He stopped connecting. It was like my baby boy was suddenly locked away inside himself ...and he still is.
Today he still only uses a handful of words begrudgingly. His fine motor skills are shaky. And those brown eyes don't connect with mine. But with the help of several teams he is happy, healthy and making progress. I still believe that one day we will find the key to unlocking the kiddo in there.
Thank you for supporting Autism Speaks. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
