Those who know me, know I sometimes can’t help to go big or go home. Well—I’m going big. I’ve always wanted to run the Chicago marathon and was on pace to in 2012. I had an ankle injury and it pushed the timing back. I didn’t run Chicago, but I did get to run the Philly Marathon right past my dad’s hospital bed window at Jefferson. Little did I know at the time he would pass on a few weeks later.

Fast forward almost 10 years. I’m older, way less in shape, and weigh quite a bit more. But I’m going to fulfill that goal 10 years later. In October 2022 I will run the Chichago Marathon for charity and myself. I’m raising money for Autism speaks. My son William, named after my dad, Bill Simon, is on the spectrum. My dad loved my boy so very much. In honor of my dad, and my son William, please cheer me on in donations and prayers as I set out on what feels impossible.

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 54 children is on the autism spectrum.

Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.

Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
