Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
As most of you know, my amazing son, Jack has Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome is the most common known single gene cause of autism. This is why I have chosen to raise funds to support Autism Speaks while proving to myself that I can run a marathon just one more time!
Autism, much like FXS refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 54 children is on the autism spectrum. According to the CDC, a national survey found that 46% of males and 16% of females with FXS have been diagnosed or treated for ASD.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span. By helping raise awareness and funds for autism, we are directly helping individuals with fragile x syndrome. Help one, help all!
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Xx,
Mitzi
