Hello Family and Friends,
Thank you for visiting my page. I was diagnosed with Autism at 18 months old and my journey to get me here today was a challenging one but thanks to an amazing network of family, friends, and loved ones, I have overcome so many challenges.
I didn't speak until I was 3 years old and growing up I remember an army of tutors, teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and ABA teachers. I went from a full day of school to being home schooled with my other therapists after school. It was tiring, but I never gave up thanks to all of you who have supported me. When I was 6 years old, my dad helped train me for the Autism Speaks 5K in Potomac, MD. The thrill of crossing the finish line and having everyone cheer me on was amazing...That would eventually lead me to a lifestyle of running throughout high school. But before that, I also watched my family and family friends ride in a charity bike ride each year that was a 100+ mile bike ride in a day. When I was 10 years old, I asked my father if I could participate as well and sure enough, he agreed and trained me. Crossing the finish line with over 100 family and friends there was one of the greatest days of my life and it also made me inspired to focus on athletics even more which is why I chose running in high school.
In high school, l ran cross country and track for four years...Cross country races were typically 3 miles and track meets were normally two or three divisions with a max 2 mile run. They were taxing and challenging but my marathon run is a little different. I signed up to run with less than two months to train and my longest run prior to the start of training was only 6 miles. I have put in the work in the past 7 weeks but hoping I'll be ready for the big run.
Please consider making a donation to my page and help me help others fighting autism. With your help we can find a cure, raise awareness, and inspire others that all of us are just humans wired a little differently...Thank you! :))
Regards,
Cameron
See below for some facts on Autism....
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 54 children is on the autism spectrum.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.
Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
