Hello, my name is Tina. I am the proud mother of three incredible children, each with their own unique qualities. My middle child, now 26 years old, was diagnosed with Asperger's and ADHD when he was in the first grade. At that time, I was informed that he would likely never be able to live independently. As a single mother with limited resources, I dedicated myself to discovering what strategies and support systems worked best for him. Despite numerous challenges, he has grown into a remarkable adult. He has secured employment and recently entered into marriage with a wonderful woman, who herself is likely undiagnosed with Asperger's. Living with Asperger's is an ongoing learning experience, yet he has consistently surpassed many barriers with resilience and determination.

In April, I decided to join my mom in a Disney 5K Marathon. She and her coworkers do these events frequently. I think it's amazing and found myself wanting to partake and join her in at least one. However, I found out that I couldn't just sign up; I needed to choose a cause to raise money for. I chose Autism Speaks. Unfortunately, all the slots were filled, but I was placed on a waitlist. I decided that if a spot opened up, it was meant to be. A week later, I got an email offering me a spot, and I eagerly accepted. On April 23rd, I registered and began my journey. By May 5th, I shared my fundraising link on Facebook, announcing I was only $80 away from reaching the halfway mark of my $600 goal, with a deadline of July 15th. By June 20th, I surpassed the halfway mark and was close to my full goal.

I'm excited to participate in this fundraising 5K to support other families and children. This marathon is significant for me because it pushes me out of my comfort zone. It's a personal challenge, and I'm learning that it's okay to do things for myself too.
