As most of you know, Maximus is on the Autism Spectrum. He was diagnosed at the early age of 2 years old. I can’t describe to you how our world shattered when we received the diagnosis (that was another battle) and felt like our world closed in on us. We have not, nor will not stop fighting Autism.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 1 in 31 children is on the autism spectrum.
The statistics and diagnosis are staggering, BUT early intervention is the key! We are thankful for all the Autism research completed thus far, but we have so much more to learn - and more importantly - learn how to conquer Autism. Maximus’ early intervention included; Neurology doctors, Speech therapy, Occupational therapy, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), Horse back riding therapy, Aquatic therapy, Music therapy, DAN! Doctors (Autism Biomedical Treatments) and our beloved Paula bear, Maximus Autism Service Dog. All of these therapies are pieces of the puzzle that we are putting together.
However, our Autism journey has not always been easy, but with the help and support in our faith with God, family and friends, Maximus has been able to conquer many of his goals !
We are just so proud of our Maximus.
Maximus continues to this day, amaze me with his progress and determination to keep moving forward. We know we still have many hurdles ahead of us, but we can accomplish them together as a family.
We are asking if you could please help us by donating to our charity in helping Autism Awareness and by also honoring and celebrating all of Maximus Castillo’s accomplishments.
Your donation would not only be in support of Maximus in his Disney race, but also support Autism Speaks an organization that helps millions of individuals diagnosed with Autism. Together we can conquer and solve the Autism puzzle!
