Autism Speaks has promoted awareness, acceptance, and research of Autism Spectrum Disorders for 20 years, and the world for those living with ASDs is profoundly better in 2023 than it was in 2002.
AS has funded research to investigate and treat the challenges of the disorder that keep individuals from reaching their full potential and engaging with the world around them. And AS has helped families and individuals find the resources they need for they and their loved ones to not just survive but to thrive in this world.
Autism disorders are on a “spectrum”—they vary across a wide range like the colors of a rainbow with blurring along the lines from one manifestation to the next. Even two individuals in the same “color” on the spectrum are different, just as neurotypical people are all unique even if they have some similarities to one another, so therapies and treatments must be customized to meet specific needs.
Autism Speaks embraces this truth about autism not only across that spectrum but across the life span. As with our son Jacob, the children who walked their first Walk Now for Autism Speaks when they were toddlers are now young adults, and the need to fulfill their potential is as acute as it was the day they were diagnosed.
THAT is why we walk!!
Please give what you can to support Autism Speaks!! Any amount is awesome for this cause!!
