For over a decade, I've been fortunate to be a part of the community of over 70 million children and adults who are affected by autism. My son Rob and everyone one of them have unique strengths, challenges and potential. I've taken part in the Autism Speaks Walk at Solder Field for 11 years to help raise awareness. Awareness of all the awesome things that I've first hand seen my son accomplish, and awareness of how the world can be more inclusive (and how everyone wins, when more doors are kept opened).
Each year, Autism Speaks makes direct contact with tens of thousands of individuals looking for advice or guidance and more than one million people access their free nationwide autism services and resources. They continue to partner and support research to improve the lives of people with autism by investing in science that will allow more personalized treatments and therapies. The dedicated support of people like us, allows Autism Speaks to continue this vital work.
Whether you get out and support your local walk, are so gracious to donate to our goal, or take a more thoughtful/kind approach the next time you meet someone on the spectrum, you're awesome. In the meantime, we'll keep, WalkinForRob.
