Let me tell you a little about Teagan. She is Julie's and Tim's middle daughter, Makinlee and Brynn's sister, Debbie & Jeff's and Dave's granddaughter and my great-niece. She is going to be 11 years old this year and is in the 4th grade. She likes stuffed animals, playing on her tablet, digging for bugs and "just relaxing!" She is bright, super funny and just a joy to be around.
Very early on, her family had concerns about her development. She was not reaching the age-appropriate milestones that most toddlers reach. Her speech was delayed, she did not engage with other children, and she was experiencing what was later found to be absence seizures.
Just before her third birthday, Teagan was diagnosed with mild epilepsy and autism. This was a very distressing time as no one knew what to expect, or what the future would look like for Teagan. Early intervention strategies were put into place. She attended an early childhood program for children with unique needs, and then transitioned into elementary school. Her teachers and school specialists have been instrumental in her success and she continues to amaze us each year. She still struggles and will no doubt always face obstacles, but we are beyond blessed to have her in our lives.
Today, over 70 million children and adults, like our beautiful Teagan, are affected by autism. Each of them have unique strengths, challenges and potential. Autism Speaks will be there for them. You and I can be there too!
Please join our team by donating to help us reach our fundraising goal. Together we have the power to enhance the lives of people with autism and make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for your support.
