HeOver 70 million people are diagnosed with Autism in our country. That's 70 million unique stories. We are sharing our story and our support with AutismSpeaks in hopes to help raise awareness for children and adults on every level of the spectrums. Here is a little on our journey in this unique world
Randy (Peanut) is our 9 year old son diagnosed with high functioning autism. It has been a very long road of ups and downs but nothing short of an amazing journey. Peanut is so very intelligent, at the age of 5 he was seen for suspected autism by his pediatrician that gave a "maybe" diagnosis, put him on medication after medication and it seemed to be an endless cycle. As he got older his behavior became violent, he held a lot of hatred. When he started kindergarten everything went great, he had an iep, on 504 plan, everything you could think of. He was so smart, loved school, loved making new friends but the only challenge was his outburst, his behavior, his inappropriate language, and his need to constantly be moving. After 1st grade, we moved him to a private school as the public school wasn't caring about his education and it was too much for them to handle. He did half a school year in the private school but the behavior continued to become worse, then another medication change. Half way through 2nd grade His father and I (stepmom) decided to pull him out and start homeschool which was the best decision we ever made, his intellectual abilities have sky rocketed, above grade level, he's our math wiz. We're still struggle every day with the behaviors, but every day is different He's starting to feel feelings. He's understanding that people are bullying him by mimicking him so he's emotional, but just like I tell him every day he is a unique individual and he has more unique abilities than the people around him that are bullying him.
Our mission With autism speaks so raise awareness for unique children to show them this world isn't bad you don't have to hide. You have greater abilities than a regular person. We strive every day to implement self-care, self love into Our child because no child deserves hate For being unique
