Gwen sees and experiences the world in her own way. She finds joy in things many people overlook—music, water, sorting her favorite toys, and the comfort of familiar routines. She has the brightest blonde hair, the bluest eyes, and a personality that is equal parts silly, curious, and determined. One of my favorite things about Gwen is how content she can be just being herself.
April is Autism Awareness Month, and this year I’m walking 31 miles in honor of Gwen. The number 31 represents the statistic that 1 in 31 children are diagnosed with autism. Every mile I walk is a step toward raising awareness, understanding, and support for children like my daughter.
Gwen has already taught me so much about patience, love, and seeing beauty in a different perspective. This walk is for her, and for every child and family navigating the autism journey.
If you’d like to support this cause, you can donate to Autism Speaks or simply help share Gwen’s story. Every bit of awareness and support means more than you know.
Thank you for walking beside us.
