DS is the reason we advocate and participate in walks to create awareness, acceptance and understanding, while educating others about autism. He is now 10, y'all!!! 

DS amazes us every single day! He is a 'Mama's boy' and a traveler by heart, always looking for his next adventure. We constantly reflect on how far we have journeyed with him, navigating his care and needs as he continue to acquire skills to adapt, express himself, and be more independent in his ever changing environment. 

Despite some challenges, DS is sure growing leaps and bounds with new interests, friends and fantasies. For example, this past school year, he actively participated in the FIRST LEGO League Robotics Club at his elementary school, an inclusive initiative. DS will be continuing his participation this current school year, too. We are grateful for his growth, and as parents, we continue to trust the process while staying steadfast in our advocacy efforts.

Early screening and intervention with the right supports have been pivotal in our little man's growth. DS is getting there, one small milestone at a time. We are grateful for the readily available resources Autism Speaks provides including tool kits (https://www.autismspeaks.org/autism-speaks-tool-kits), an accessible Autism Response Team, caregiver skills training, etc. Also, Autism Speaks works diligently for the autism community by collaborating with autism advocates and congressional representatives to advocate for federal funding including the reauthorization of the Autism CARES Act about to expire Sept. 2024 that will make a big difference in the autism community. 

This is the reason we advocate on behalf of Autism Speaks to help raise money.  We are walking to raise funds 'to have a voice with legislators, to have access to the information and resources we need, to support research and medical discovery, and to help fund local services through the mission of Autism Speaks.'
