Help us reach our goal!

In addition to coming together in person to help create a world where all people with autism can reach their full potential, each Walk will retain the fun, remote-participation options introduced last year. Your safety is our priority — and no matter how you choose to participate, your support will be recognized and celebrated. Our community is stronger together, and we can't wait to celebrate one another and the amazing impact we are making together for people with autism and their families. Whether near or far, let's rally together on Walk day!

Team Sophia

As most of you know, five years ago Sophia was diagnosed with autism at the vulnerable age of two. Completely devastated I looked for answers - What caused this? Why her? What can I do to help her? That's where Autism Speaks came in and changed my views on autism. Instead of reminding myself of all the things my daughter "can't" do or will "never" be capable of, I started telling myself anything and everything is possible. I began researching and educating myself on ways to tackle this obstacle we call Autism to find someway... anyway for her to have as much as a chance at succeeding as anyone her age. In June of this year I am humbled to say she will complete first grade with the rest of her peers. Without the countless hours of speech and occupational therapy I'm afraid that none of this would be possible. Sophia continues to excel and crush her educational goals but still has trouble with her social skills. She works very hard to understand things just as anyone else.

We are fundraising this year to not only support Sophia, but other people like her. Our goal is to continue to support the research in place to learn more about autism, to have a voice with legislators, and to ensure resources are available to those who need them.
