In February of 2017, my then 18month old was diagnosed with Autism. We were told she'd never speak, and basically be so low functioning. If you know my Scarlett- she is as stubborn as her father and myself. She works so hard every single day with some of the best teachers and has shown SO MUCH PROGRESS. I truly believe Early Intervention is key! I watch her everyday, I watch her struggle, I watch her cry but I also watch her KICK ASS and do things that we were told she'd "never do". This walk is for her. And for every child who struggles. And for every parent who works with their child, watches them struggle, watches them succeed and appreciates all the little things - THAT MUCH MORE. Im walking to help people show more acceptance and understanding. There are other ways of learning and she just learns at her own pace, a little differently than you and I do.
I'm walking to raise funds for the mission of Autism Speaks - to fuel innovative research and make connections to critical lifelong supports and services for the autism community. Please support me by donating and help me meet my fundraising goal - and you, too, can join the team and make an impact for people living with autism!
In addition to coming together in person to help create a world where all people with autism can reach their full potential, each Walk will retain the fun, remote-participation options introduced last year. Your safety is our priority — and no matter how you choose to participate, your support will be recognized and celebrated. Our community is stronger together, and we can't wait to celebrate one another and the amazing impact we are making together for people with autism and their families. Whether near or far, let's rally together on Walk day!
