My reason for walking in the Autism Speaks Walk this year is incredibly personal: my wonderful 3-year-old daughter was diagnosed with autism in 2025. This diagnosis has deepened my commitment to understanding, advocating for, and celebrating every individual on the spectrum.
It's a reality that resonates with a growing number of families across the country, as 1 in 31 children in the U.S. are now diagnosed with autism. And for girls like my daughter, the path to diagnosis can often be more challenging, as autism is diagnosed about 3-4 times more often in boys. This means many girls' unique presentations are overlooked or misdiagnosed, delaying access to vital support.
As we embark on this new journey as a family, I'm more determined than ever to ensure she has access to the best resources and support. That's exactly what Autism Speaks provides through its vital research, advocacy, and programs – crucial work that helps improve diagnosis, support, and understanding for all individuals with autism.
I'm walking to raise funds so Autism Speaks can continue its life-changing work. Please consider making a donation to my page. Your support means the world to me and will directly help create a more inclusive and supportive world for my daughter and countless others, ensuring no diagnosis goes missed and every child can thrive.
