Meet Hunter
Hunter is 4 years old and lights up every room with his affection, humor, and intelligence. He is nonverbal, but recently has been making exciting progress in trying new words. Like many children on the autism spectrum, Hunter?s journey has had ups and downs. Before 18 months, he began showing repetitive behaviors and stimming, and soon after, he experienced regression in his language and communication.
Today, Hunter is a vibrant little boy who loves his family deeply and enjoys life in so many typical 4-year-old ways. At the same time, he faces daily challenges. Sensory processing and anxiety make grooming and changes in routine very difficult. Even something as small as a change in environment can overwhelm his nervous system. For the past two months, one of his biggest struggles has been getting into a vehicle, making even simple outings very hard. This has made taking him to his private therapy and to preschool impossible where he normally receives occupational therapy and speech therapy. Fortunately, we will soon start in home therapy to help him ease back into normal daily activities.
We are raising money for Autism Speaks because families like ours need resources, research, and advocacy that improve the lives of children like Hunter. Every donation helps fund vital services, therapies, and awareness efforts so that kids on the spectrum can reach their full potential.
