Today, over 70 million children and adults are affected by autism. Each of them, have unique strengths, challenges and potential. Autism Speaks will be there for them. You and I can be too.
Last fall was a very busy time for my family and myself. This year I'm participating in The Walk again and I hope you will support me as you have in the past! Good news I am making progress to reduce the medication used to help control the violent outbursts I have struggled with since I was very little. The medication has unfortunately caused a drug induced Parkinson's Disease. I am doing very well to reduce it and feel better with no increase in behaviors, actually I am coping better than I did! This is one struggle many children with autism have and now that I am older (27) we can see there are long term effects. People with autism need help navigating these waters and support for organizations doing research can help get the info we need.
My picture this year is of me feeding my favorite giraffe named Tuffy at The Wilds. You can see I feel a strong bond with Tuffy and always cry when I get to feed and pet him. It has been a good year with many opportunities for fun things like our yearly trip to The Wilds. Join me to support Autism Speaks and help all of us with Autism find ways to cope with our challenges and research to help with things like my Parkisons.
Thanks for your many years of support!
