My son Matthew was diagnosed with autism in 1994. Since that time, my family and I have worked hard find treatments and interventions that might allow him to lead a normal life. In the early years we, like many other parents, we were frustrated by a lack of good research. So we tried everything that came along only to be discouraged. We were so happy when the National Alliance for Autism Research formed in 2000 and when that organization merged with Autism Speaks in 2007. Now there would be a large well managed, professional organization to lead the charge for research, awareness, and advocacy. We have not been disappointed with Autism Speaks. It has raised millions of dollars for research that has provided desperate parents with solid direction. It has become the leader in promoting world wide awareness, and a strong voice for countless people afflicted by autism. We have been proud to support the mission of Autism Speaks by walking in every single Pittsburgh Autism Walk. Our walk team, Marchers for Matty has raised over $250,000 for the cause. Each dollar we have raised has given us hope. A hope that someday the research our efforts funds might lead to a cure for Matty. So, we will be at the 2024 Walk (our 25th walk). Please consider supporting our cause by walking and or donating.
