News & Updates

We're excited to see you at the Charlotte Walk! While Autism Speaks Walks are FREE to attend, they are also our largest fundraising events, fueling the vital mission of Autism Speaks. Funds raised help advance innovative research and connect people with critical lifelong support and services. YOUR fundraising efforts empower our vision of an inclusive world where all people with autism can reach their full potential.

With our event so close to Halloween, we’d love to get in the “spirit” and see your Halloween costumes! Feel free to come in costume for some Halloween fun. You can even trick-or-treat your way through the sponsor booths! Now for some information to help prepare you for Walk Day...

WALK DAY DETAILS:

Parking is available in the parking garage across from the venue at 410 S. Mint Street for $5 per half hour with a maximum of $28. There is also some metered street parking available.

Walk Day schedule is on the home page of this site (or below if you're already on the home page). Arrive early to enjoy our Resource/Sponsor Area and kids’ activities (all opening at 9 a.m.) before Opening Ceremonies at 10 a.m.

The Walk route is indoors, on the concourse, and accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. It’s approximately 1/3 mile long and you’re welcome to go around as many times as you’d like!

Snacks and refreshments will consist of bottled water and candy for trick or treaters. The concession stand will not be open.

SAFETY AND COMFORT:

In the event you find a lost child or a parent looking for a child, please stay with them and take them to the Check-In/Registration tent. Autism Speaks staff and onsite security will be notified from there. There will be volunteers, staff, security, and police making sure everyone who participates in the Walk is safe.

All Autism Speaks Walks have a Quiet Tent. Sometimes the environment at an can become overwhelming for people with sensory sensitivities. The Quiet Tent provides space that can be used as a safe outlet if you or your loved one living with autism becomes overwhelmed.

We walk RAIN or SHINE! Please come prepared for any type of weather be it rain gear or sunglasses and sunscreen (let’s hope for the latter).
